Welcome and thank you for being here! My path to Visual and Performance Artistry is rooted in my story as a person.

At the age of seven years old I was introduced to the arts. I took my first ballet class in a housing project in The Bronx. My father was a dancer and danced in famed ballrooms in New York City, dancing was always a big part of growing up in my household. My father loved to dance swing, lindy, and soft shoe. He worked as an ambulance attendant (which today is referred to as an EMS worker) and when he wasn't working, he was dancing.

Naturally, my mother introduced my siblings and I to the performing arts, bringing us to different dance and theatrical performances. My mom, a laboratory technician, also loved the arts and always encouraged us to be the best at whatever we wanted to be.

So, I continued to dance. After college I took various dance classes, performed with West African dance companies and taught children and adults.

When I moved to Harlem in 2000, I started hanging out with a group of women from a quilting circle called Harlem Girls Quilting Circle. Most of these women were dancers and we met once a month. One day one of the quilters I met through dance class invited me to one of their meetings. At the time, I knew nothing about quilting or sewing on a sewing machine. I attended several meetings and enjoyed the food, and socialization. After a while I started putting assorted fabrics together and created a small square which was later used to create a quilt. 

One day my friend who invited me said , ‘Pat you have a good eye for color”. I thought to myself 'really?!" That was the beginning of a hidden treasure: combining myriad fabrics, sewing on a machine, and creating quilts.

In 2010, I took a a trip to Ghana with my textile group. In addition to be an awesome experience personally, I was inspired me to create art with West African fabrics. As I reconnected with the Motherland, I found the textile representing the beauty, diversity and uniqueness Africa holds.

By 2013, I founded Vibrant Expressions NYC. I am very grateful for my God given talents. I thank and honor the spirit of my ancestors and The Creator who creates all things great and small.
